Photos of the Day: Hawaiian Escape

    April 4th, 2012

In need of a beach getaway? So are we!

Hawaii, a chain of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, practically defines paradise. Sandy beaches, tropical drinks, lazy live music and expansive resorts fuel the tourism that’s vital to the state’s economy.

Hawaii is hot! Formed from volcanic eruptions, the mostly-sunny state averages 80- and 90-degree temperatures year-round. Stay cool in an aloha shirt (men) or muumuu (women), then swim with the dolphins at Sea Life Park. Sign up for classes in hula-ing and lei-making to have something to show your friends. Grab a plate lunch from a lunch wagon, which usually includes meat, rice and macaroni, then head to the Hilo Art Museum.

Kauai is the northwestern-most and oldest of Hawaii’s major islands. People come to Kauai primarily for one thing: the beaches with their great snorkeling, surfing, swimming and sunning. But Kauai also boasts more navigable rivers than the other Hawaiian Islands making kayaking very popular. If the surf is calm you can even combine a river run with time paddling the bays and ocean shoreline. You’ll find kayak rentals near the mouth of the most popular rivers. Kauai has great hiking and mountain biking trails as well

Photos of the Day: Exotic Safari in Tanzania

    April 3rd, 2012

Fancy a trip to the Serengeti?

Tanzania is an east African country located on the Indian Ocean coastline and borders Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Congo, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. The country gets its name from a combination of Tanganyika, the name of the country’s large mainland territory, and Zanzibar, the country’s offshore archipelago.

The country is home to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, as well as the lake bed of Lake Tanganyika, which is the continent’s lowest point. Warm and sunny days are followed by cool and balmy nights, and whether you’re on safari on the Serengeti plains or enjoying the tropical beaches of Zanzibar, the temperatures are usually welcoming and gentle throughout the country.

Photo of the Day: Beach Getaway – Vieques, Puerto Rico

    February 13th, 2012

Vieques has fifty beaches in total. However, the Sombé has been said to be the most popular. From Sombé, you can hike to the secluded Media Luna and Navío beaches. Media Luna features calm waters and resembles a giant swimming pool. Navío, on the other hand has an aggressive surf with a very strong undertow. On the northwest coast you will find Mosquito Bay. This is one of Puerto Rico’s phosphorescent treasures, where the waters actually become illuminated at night. Sun Bay is Vieques’ public beach.
